Mr. Mangham's Project-Based Learning Math Camps

My camps are designed to include math as part of project based group activities. From Architecture to Hunger Games we will explore, create, and analyze in both a fun and an educational environment. Many of these projects are incorporated into my math classes during the school year.

Camps are open to all students age 10-13 and there is no pre-requisite math level needed.

Fantasy Football Frenzy

Fantasy Football is back for another year! Our most popular summer camp is designed for everyone from football novices to football experts. Learn the basics of how to select a team, how scoring works, and how to research key statistics. Share your NFL knowledge with others and select your team for the upcoming year. Plenty of football cards will be distributed to all!

Note: All DIS 6th graders participate in fantasy football during school. DIS 6th graders do not need to register for this class to play during the school year in our league.

Utilizing numerous probability concepts we will determine if the odds are really in your favor. We will hold a district reaping and a celebrity Hunger Games simulation to determine a winning tribute. Use your own imagination to create an arena, drawn proportionally, filled with incredible landscapes and danger everywhere.

Our signature camp is back again for another year! Create a blueprint of your dream place on 22x28in. graph paper. Creations in the past have included homes, putt-putt golf courses, cupcake restaurants, football stadiums, and parks. Utilize real architectural symbols and templates. Explore professions such as building inspector, real estate agent, and landscape designer.

Maybe one day you will grow up and be a chef or even own a restaurant? Learn about the mathematical side of foods we eat every day. Develop your own menu as you create your brand new restaurant. Complete an income/expense statement as you determine if you made a profit or not.
RMS Titanic

Take your boarding pass as we look at many of the historic events related to the Titanic. Combine measurement and statistics with an in-depth Titanic exploration. Develop a mathematically proven method that could have helped save many more of the lost from the Titanic.
